Science in Your Own Backyard...

Join the hunt for bees by participating in "The Great Sunflower Project." This year you'll have to provide your own seeds, but it will still be a fun project. Plant your sunflowers in a pot or in your garden. By watching and recording the bees at the sunflowers in your garden, you can help the experts understand the challenges that bees are facing.
This is a great family activity and a natural way to learn science in your own backyard. Your children can plant the seeds and take care of them. They can observe the behavior of bees at the flowers, recording and reporting the data. By participating in the project, your child can get a first hand experience of how scientists work.

He doesn't do the "curriculum" stuff...
...but he does other things. When he's messing around with his saltwater tanks, he talks to the kids about what he's doing. When he's building something in the basement, he brings them down and hands them a hammer and nails...
- Organization Tips
Took over a closet... and a cabinet...
I have a small closet in what was our dining room (now it's more of a computer room/den) that I took over. I put a small file cart in there with hanging file folders for various forms, papers, supplies, etc...

Our Homeschooling Sounds Like...
Usually it is quiet as my son does his schoolwork (he is 15 and can do most of it by himself). Dad is there if he needs help. Many days you can hear the sound of laughter as Dad and son joke and wrestle around on breaks from schoolwork...

My Homeschool Fairy Tale
Before my husband and I were married, we talked about teaching our kids at home. The plan was for me to get a teaching credential to make it possible. It sounded like a fairy tale to me because I had never heard of anyone teaching their kids at home...and back then (1974) homeschooling was truly very scarce...
