The Science Network

At the Science Network, we share Carl Sagan’s vision of science as a candle in the dark. It is part of our mission to enlarge the constituency of reason. This is why we make programs about science. We celebrate rational conversation. Let us reason together; more programs, more candles, more light. http://thesciencenetwork.org

The Why Files

The mission of The Why Files is to explore the science, math and technology behind the news of the day, and to present those topics in a clear, accessible and accurate manner. We are based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but The Why Files covers science at all institutions that engage in scientific exploration and discovery. We hope this information will help explain the relationship between science and daily life.

The Wolfram Demonstrations Project
The Wolfram Demonstrations Project is an open-code resource that uses dynamic computation to illuminate concepts in science, technology, mathematics, art, finance, and a remarkable range of other fields.

...From elementary education to front-line research, topics span an ever-growing array of categories. Some Demonstrations can be used to enliven a classroom or visualize tough concepts, while others shed new light on cutting-edge ideas relevant to high-level workgroups and thesis research. Each is reviewed for content, clarity, and presentation, edited by experts at Wolfram Research to ensure quality and reliability. http://demonstrations.wolfram.com/

Tree of Life

The interactive Tree of Life puts you in the driver's seat to explore the evolutionary links between living things. To run the interactive you need Flash version 10 or above and JavaScript enabled. http://www.wellcometreeoflife.org/

Tree of Life Web Project
The Tree of Life Web Project is a collection of information about biodiversity compiled collaboratively by hundreds of expert and amateur contributors.  Its goal is to contain a page with pictures, text, and other information for every species and for each group of organisms, living or extinct.Connections between Tree of Life web pages follow phylogenetic branching patterns between groups of organisms, so visitors can browse the hierarchy of life and learn about phylogeny and evolution as well as the characteristics of individual groups.

Try Engineering.org
TryEngineering.org is a resource for students (ages 8-18), their parents, their teachers and their school counselors. This is a portal about engineering and engineering careers, and we hope it will help young people understand better what engineering means, and how an engineering career can be made part of their future.  http://www.tryengineering.org
Understanding Evolution
This award winning site was created by the University of California Museum of Paleontology with support provided by the National Science Foundation and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.http://evolution.berkeley.edu/
Visual Literacy

This e-learning site focuses on a critical, but often neglected skill for business, communication, and engineering students, namely visual literacy, or the ability to evaluate, apply, or create conceptual visual representations. After this tutorial, students should be able to evaluate advantages and disadvantages of visual representations, to improve their shortcomings, to use them to create and communicate knowledge, or to devise new ways of representing insights. http://www.visual-literacy.org/

We Choose the Moon

Windows to the Universe
Windows to the Universe is a user-friendly learning system covering the Earth and Space sciences for use by the general public. ...Our site is appropriate for use in libraries, museums, schools, homes, and the workplace. Students and teachers may find the site especially helpful in their studying (and teaching!) Earth and Space sciences. Because we have users of all ages, the site is written in three reading levels approximating elementary, middle school and high school reading levels. These levels may be chosen by using the upper button bar of each page of the main site. We include updates to Windows to the Universe on a regular basis, so we invite you to revisit the site regularly to see our resources grow and change. http://www.windows.ucar.edu/
World Lecture Hall
World Lecture Hall publishes links to pages created by faculty worldwide who are using the Web to deliver course materials in any language.  Some courses are delivered entirely over the Internet. Others are designed for students in residence. Many fall somewhere in between. In all cases, they can be visited by anyone interested in courseware on the Internet - faculty, developers, and curious students alike.  http://web.austin.utexas.edu/wlh/browse.cfm
Worldwide Telescope
The WorldWide Telescope (WWT) is a Web 2.0 visualization software environment that enables your computer to function as a virtual telescope-bringing together imagery from the best ground and space-based telescopes in the world for a seamless exploration of the universe.  Choose from a growing number of guided tours of the sky by astronomers and educators from some of the most famous observatories and planetariums in the country. Feel free at any time to pause the tour, explore on your own (with multiple information sources for objects at your fingertips), and rejoin the tour where you left off. Join Harvard Astronomer Alyssa Goodman on a journey showing how dust in the Milky Way Galaxy condenses into stars and planets. Take a tour with University of Chicago Cosmologist Mike Gladders two billion years into the past to see a gravitational lens bending the light from galaxies allowing you to see billions more years into the past.  http://www.worldwidetelescope.org
WorldWideScience.org
WorldWideScience.org is a global science gateway-accelerating scientific discovery and progress through a multilateral partnership to enable federated searching of national and international scientific databases. Subsequent versions of WorldWideScience.org will offer access to additional sources as well as enhanced features. http://www.worldwidescience.org/
WW2010 (Weather World 2010))
